This morning was Harvick's follow-up at Primary Children's Medical Center (PCMC) with the Pediatric Orthopedic Doctor.
They took 3 x-rays of Harvick's leg to allow for the doctor to analyze the bone from multiple angles. Of course, this was Harvick's least favorite part of the appointment - the cold x-ray table is not fun.
The doctor was "very happy" with how Harvick's femur is healing. He showed us the x-ray, and explained exactly how the bone is expected to heal (using another patient's x-rays as an example). I tried just now to google images of a broken femur to try to show here, but I'm not really finding what I want easily, so you'll just have to take my word for it, or ask me in person and I can draw you a picture!
As originally expected, Harvick's femur should heal without issue!
Harvick will wear the harness for a total of a month (we already have 11 days out of the way!) just to be safe. The doctor states that his femur has already healed to the point that an older child's femur would heal to in 2 months - infants really are resilient. We will go back to PCMC to see the doctor again in a month from now - to allow time for Harvick to have his leg out of the harness for a couple of weeks to ensure it is still healing well.
Following that appointment, we will go back again in 6 months, and at a year. The next appointments are all precautionary, but it is better to be cautious!
Thanks for all of the prayers and well wishes - Harvick especially appreciates them!!!
(sorry, no pictures in this post . . . the 9 week post for Harvick and Jarrett will be posted soon, and will have lots!)
